Chris Matthews, D.O., Medical Director What is a D.O.?

Dr. Chris Matthews has been practicing family practice medicine and urgent care in Orange County and most recently in San Diego County for the past five years.

Dr. Matthews obtained his medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, in 2000.  He completed his Family Practice residency and served as Chief Resident in his final year at Downey Regional Medical Center, Downey, California.

Dr. Matthews’ medical interests involve all aspects of primary care medicine. “I enjoy practicing family medicine because it allows me to treat the entire family not just the individual.”

Dr. Matthews is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians in Family Medicine. He is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the San Diego County Medical Association, and is President/Medical Director of Torrey Hills Family Medicine.

Dr. Matthews is married and enjoys hiking, kayaking, cycling, rock climbing, and surfing.

Dawn Swartwood, R.N., Business Manager/Clinical Nurse

Dawn Swartwood is a licensed Registered Nurse who was born and raised in Southern California.  She completed her training in Long Beach, California. 

Prior to starting Torrey Hills Family Medicine she served in both clinical and administrative positions at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, as well as in executive leadership roles. Dawn is a specialized pediatric nurse, with a vast knowledge of clinical care and healthcare management. She has diverse experience, with a comprehensive background in pediatrics, hematology‐oncology, intensive care, emergency room, and operating room nursing. She will bring her experience as a clinical supervisor, responsible for patient admissions/discharges, patient and family education, and management of complex disease states, to Torrey Hills Family Medicine.

Colette Williams, Administrative Assistant

Colette Williams has been with Torrey Hills Family Medicine since its inception. 
She is a licensed pharmacy technician born and raised in San Diego.  Colette brings here enthusiastic style to our front office and looks forward to getting to know our patients.
